STF personnel have opened fire on a cab at a roadblock in Point Pedro, Jaffna.

The incident took place at around 7.30 am today. The cab has driven in defiance of the STF orders and it has also crashed into the barriers and attempted to runover a group of STF officers who were in front.

The Police Media Spokesman further stated that there is a natural sand mound in the Point Pedro area and the STF has set up a check post in the area to protect the sand mound. Moreover, then the STF had opened fire on the cab and the cab had fled in the middle of the shooting stated the Police Media spokesman.

Further, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the police have received information that two youths aged 23 and 26 have been admitted to the Point Pedro Hospital with injuries and they might be the suspects who travelled in the cab.

Around 10 vehicles collided on the Southern Expressway between Dodangoda and Gelanigama this morning. The accident had taken place due to heavy traffic on the expressway.

DIG Ajith Rohana, stated that the accident had taken place due to a large number of vehicles traveling on the
expressway today and not maintaining the expected distance between vehicles and the speed. He also said that drivers should be careful while driving on the expressway.
